Guiding a Desperate Longing for the Feminine Mystique
My mother and I couldn’t believe the incredible Chandra Dreskell, my high school BFF, might someday cover her head with lace front wigs. Her terrific hair styles added so much to her femininity. But surprise surprise. The woman continues to be known because of her trademark toss ‘n turn. Very few know she lives confidently wearing lace front wigs. You’d be surprised!
Back in the day as blossoming ladies in our home town of Scottsdale, we once took turns winning Miss “SCH” four years running. A few years went by before her women’s hair loss started acting up and her hair wouldn’t be the same. I suggested a few lace wigs. Oh well, balding was no big deal to her. Even on bad days she proudly showcased her innate beauty.
At our alma mater’s golf competition, we flirted with the crowd until some kluts accidentally slapped the orb (or whatever they play with) at us. She tried to get it and her hat flew right off, revealing her shiny head. No big deal, she hurled the thing with a tremendous heave back to the field. That’s so her!
Of course, nobody is perfect. The same summer she invited me over for a stroll to the art gallery, when she quietly confided that she prefers to do without hair out of bitterness. She would never think about human hair wigs, secretly acknowledging she would wear them. At that moment miss invincible became beet pink in the face and demanded that I drop it. I didn’t know what to say.
I couldn’t drop it. Shortly after, I talked about settling the wig issue. After a long deliberation the two of us ended up with the perfect solution: we’ll think of wigs as fashion, and we love fashion. So I’m getting one too!
We had a ball wig shopping, stunned by how natural they looked. She never knew that lace front wigs could be this fashionable for people, even superstars. These complimented her natural beauty. As for me, put together a completely creative wardrobe to match our wigs. We do it all together, and that will surely endure. The other day she gave me a photo of us in our wigs and thanked me for her human hand-crafted human hair wig, and confessed it fosters a fresh spirit in her life. It’s delightful to see little miss attitude rediscover the sassy, feminine girl I remember. And she’s still got the attitude.
