The Education of Public Service: Community Service Learning at the Ross School
At the Ross School in New York, education is not just limited to the classroom and playing field. Community service and humanitarian projects are also a part of the lesson plans. All students, faculty, and families are encouraged to participate in various community service projects. Community service projects are an essential aspect of the Ross School’s quest to make their students global citizens.
The Ross School supports several notable service projects. The Ross School has partnered with Habitat with Humanity, Empty Bowls Project, and the Memory Project to provide students with volunteer opportunities. For the Empty Bowls project, 5th and 6th grade students raised money through ceramic bowl sales to benefit local food banks. Ross School students also reached out to orphaned Haitian children by painting portraits of the orphans and donating them as gifts. The students have also painted a mural at the Animal Rescue Facility, cleaned up local trails and beaches, and hosted Veterans Day luncheons.
The Ross School’s emphasis on community service is reflected in service motto “Know Thyself in Order To Serve.” The Ross School believes that in order for students to lead meaningful lives, they must take up leadership and service roles in today’s globally connected community. Senior projects and midterm courses focus on community service, both locally and abroad. There are also a wide range of student organizations that focus upon community service.

You should be impertinent today to investigate if you have a great deal or if you don’t with the merchant bank that offers you a bank loan. That’s the reason why now you need to investigate and encounter if you can have a loan at a dependable percent rate. Nowadays you can check into rates quickly online and image if there are other conditions you should be aware of. Analyze to see if the moneylender who is tending to give you a credit loan is right. A bank in Mount Vernon New York or so may have a total totally different actual interest rate for a 30000 dollar bank loan then a merchant bank in Barnstable Massachusetts and that makes a vast clear gap in your yearly costs. It makes no difference if you live in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio or in Binghamton New York a safe online investigation will alleviate you often a lot of disoblige. A lot of the merchant banks wil show you a rate of interest that is looking mediocre but feels poorly or so after some time. 7.4 percent loan rate may appear so fair but will that be immutable after you have to requite your credit loan.

Fighter aircraft are becoming more and more agile and if humans are going to continue to fly them and compete with artificial intelligent UAVs then the future fighter pilot will need a little help. I propose Aircraft Flight Control Systems with Mind Reader Enabling Devices. I know what you are saying; Lance what kind of crazy idea is this? Let me explain.
We will use a device inside the fighter pilot’s helmet, which will read the brain activity and pre-activate the controls. When the fighter pilot sees something, perhaps a target of opportunity it will see a pulse shoot from inside his brain, at that point and alleviating all the brain to body reaction time issues, the plane will have already responded. Based on his line of vision at the time (what he is looking at) plus his level of anxiety or excitement it will activate the weapons systems, thrust control, “G” suit and directional thrust nozzles for rapid and evasive or tactical maneuvers.
The system will work on a non aggressive low frequency or ultra sound reading. It may or may not incorporate MRI or rTMS; read this for the basis of this thought;
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=35168
In the future due to reaction time and the amount of “g-forces” a human pilot can take it is obvious that AI UAVs will indeed have the upper hand; but until then we need to upgrade the technology to enhance the human pilots ability to keep up. Consider this in 2006.

The most effective Web sites on the Internet are sites which invoke action from the user. Far too many businesses put up a Web site and only provide information about the company, product or service, or current news and events.
Why this is all well and good from a content standpoint, it does not sell anything or invoke any action from the user. The fundamental problem with this approach is for every user that comes to your Web site you need to treat as potential customer.
There is one of two things your Web site should be doing to right now. If it isn’t put down this article and come back to it when is. The first thing your Web site should be doing is asking the user to give you his First Name, Last name, and e-mail address. The other action your Web site should be doing is asking your visitor to buy your product or service.
Invoking some kind of action like generating a sale or a lead should be the primary goal of your Web site. How you do that can be accomplished in an infinite amount of ways, but it is important to make sure it gets done.
The importance of a lead……..
Collecting user information is the most important function your Web site can provide your business. Unless your company has a really good reputation you probably fall in the same boat as 90% of the businesses out there.
Most small businesses do not have the recognition and branding that Fortune 500 companies have so it is imperative that small businesses build a relationship with their customers.
In most cases your Web site visitors will not buy from you on their first visit unless you sell a highly unique product line or service, or you just get lucky. You are far more likely to get your visitors e-mail address than their credit card number on their first visit.

Current detailed Global Positioning System measurements conducted on the 13-14th October have established that Mont Blanc measures 4810.7 m. Mont Blanc is veiled by a deep icecap which has grown by 2.4 metres in barely 2 yrs furthermore more unexpectedly the amount of the ice has virtually grown twofold . Leastwise that’s as reported by the scientists.
The bulk of ice and snow was computed for the first time in 2000. It was calculated at 14500 meters cubed higher up than 4770 metres. It comprised only 13700 meters cubed in 2004 perhaps due to the warmth with + temperatures as high as 4900 m alt. Still the ice-cap has nearly increased twofold since then and at present measures 24000 metres cubed.
Chamonix Mont Blanc’s esteemed local weather forecaster Carlos Olson explained the increment in the size of the ice-cap is one of the perverse consequences of global warming: The amount of snow hasn’t increased overall in the Alps only with climate change we’re seeing added hotter prevailing westerly air currents which bestow rainfall at lower altitudes however in summer this results in thick snow that rests higher up than 3800 m altitude thus the mass bulk of the ice-cap is increasing. Compare that to the situation during wintertime where snow crystals are very cold and are carried by wind so don’t settle down on the summit.

With the compensation culture increasing all around the planet, having possession of professional indemnity cover is turning out to be more and more indispensible. If you don’t presently have public liability insurance built-in into your building cover, then now is perhaps the occasion to look into getting better insurance. Here is some information about why you need cover, and what to watch out for.
What is professional indemnity insurance: Professional Indemnity insurance is an insurance agreement that shields you from claims that other people might make against you in the chance of an accident. If somebody damages their possessions or injures themselves in or around your property or company then the public liability insurance will protect you for any compensation claims that may well arise. Insurance generally ranges from ?250,000 up to ?1 million. Protect your against claims with public liability insurance from Insured Risks.
What are you protected against: Insurance will insure cover for accidents or loss that other individuals may suffer in or around your house or organisations grounds. You are protected against claims from trespassers, and injury that may well take place to a person from falling items or staff carrying out maintenance. If an accident occurs on your land and someone claims against you, your insurance contract will assist you to pay any expenses.
What’s included A lot of contents or property insurance documents enclose integrated liability insurance. You would be advised to check with your insurance firm if this is the case, and if so what extent of cover you have. Even if the insurance is incorporated, you must verify that you are correctly protected for any particular accidents that may well come about.
Premiums: The premiums that you are expected to have to pay depend on the sort of cover you desire. If you simply cover your home, then the costs are very likely to be not as much as than if you are wanting to cover a business. Yet, premiums are fairly cheap for the level of protection that you get, & it is therefore necessary for any individual running an organisation.

A Very simple PHP form processor that goes with the HTML form I created in the HTML forum.
Thank You
$date = date (”m/d/Y”);
$name=$_POST['name']; $email=$_POST['email']; $comments=$_POST['comments'];
$to=”youremail@yourdomain.com”; $subject=”The subject for your email”; /* IE: Comments on $date */ $message=”Comments from $name\n\nName: $name\nE-mail: $email\nComments: $comments”; $from=”$email”; $headers=”From: $email\n”;
if (mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers)) { echo “ Thank you for sending your comments“; } else { echo “There was a problem sending mail, this is a coding issue”; }
?>
Lets get go through the explanation of this. You’ll notice that I included the HTML tags as it’s a good practice to get into. Most of you know how to begin a PHP statement by using and ending it with ?>, that’s fairly simple.
$date = date (”m/d/Y”);
This line configures the date, I enjoy using this and putting it somewhere in the processor, mainly the subject, so I know what date the comments were sent in on. This can be configured many different ways.
$name=$_POST['name']; $email=$_POST['email']; $comments=$_POST['comments'];
These three statements are how you get the information from the HTML form into this PHP processor. This takes from the POST method the HTML form and assigns the output into variables that we can use to produce the output. These output variables can differ depending on the info that your forms provide.
$to=”youremail@yourdomain.com”; $subject=”The subject for your email”; /* IE: Comments on $date */ $message=”Comments from $name\n\nName: $name\nE-mail: $email\nComments: $comments”; $from=”$email”; $headers=”From: $email\n”;
This is all the information to actually output the information. $to is the email address that you wish to send the comments to. $subject is the subject of the email that gets sent. $message is the formatted message that will be the body of the message with the variables, Note: \n skips 1 line. $from is the email address it’s coming from, which isn’t necessarily needed. $headers creates the headers for the email message, you should make it good attempt to do so, as some mail servers won’t accept the mail without headers.
if (mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers)) { echo “ Thank you for sending your comments“; } else { echo “There was a problem sending mail, this is a coding issue”; }
This is the piece of code that actually sends the email. PHP has a very simple command to send mail it’s mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers); and is very self explanatory, as it mails using those variables. The if statement allows coding error control. If the email address entered isn’t correct, or something is missing, it will post an error.
That concludes this PHP form mail tutorial. Please visit http://justincanada.net for more :). Thanks.

I am a dumpster diver and proud to be known as, “Curb King”. I love waste. I’d rather go without most things, than buy them new, because I will wait until someone near my home will throw it away for me to find, first. I have even collected toilet paper and soap, new of course. But I get my shoes, housewares, clothing, linens, furnishings, cleaners, paints, nuts and bolts, tools,tractors,lumber,computers…you get the idea from your trash can.
Now what can do with all these treasures. Some end up at Milan Hirst Nursery and Treasures which is our store at our nursery located in Milan Pa. along rt. 220 in Bradford county. Some I use as freebies.
The net is a free market at is best. Our Internet users all love free stuff. So we try to give them what they want. Free items. This is a lesson that I learned many years ago. I always try to offer a customer something that is free. Customers remember the free item more than items that they buy. Of all the different types of adds that I have run over the years, its the free offers that people cut out and save. After all think about coupons that people save. They don’t collect product adds they will collect coupons. That is why I like to always advertise my free items. I even plan days around free give aways. When customers are at nursery I will even make up a free offer on the spot many times such as when I ask the customer, ” Do you know what day it is? Do you know its free Lilac day? Let me show you a Lilac that is free today”. I will then give them a lilac and say such things as every landscape needs at least one lilac. I can them show them all the different lilacs that we have and promote many different lilacs. I never give away a teaser. I make the free plant a quality gift of real value. This is what is remembered by customers. This is a copy of my most recent email newsletter. This was an overwhelming success. We had an estimated 600% weekly sales gain by using this newsletter add. *********************************************************** January 2006 The Early Bird Gets the Worm—Don’t Delay Free Tree Day Jan. 28Th is a Free Higan Weeping Cherry Tree Day Greetings! When guests fall asleep after Thanksgiving dinner, we chalk it up to a
full belly.
When the cook falls asleep after Thanksgiving dinner, it’s for other
reasons.
Let’s face it. Thanksgiving dinner is a lot of work, especially when you’re
cooking for a crowd. You’re on your feet, you’re watching the clock, and
it’s hard to avoid stressing out over whether the bird will be “done” on
time.
Meanwhile, if you have little ones, you’re feeling vaguely guilty about not
giving them attention.
One year, the preparations for Thanksgiving dinner with my extended
family got so hectic that we left the mashed potatoes in a bowl in the
oven — and nobody noticed until after the meal!
No single strategy works for every family, but here’s a philosophy that’s
helped me:
Less cooking, more connecting!
Can the meal be simplified? Check in to see if there’s anything you’re
cooking now that family members wouldn’t mind skipping — at least until
later in the weekend.
Can anything be delegated? Maybe your brother-in-law would like to
bring the pumpkin pie. You can give him the recipe for “fool-proof pie
crust.”
Maybe some items can be bought rather than made at home. Cooking
ahead and freezing can be another option.
Perhaps the family wouldn’t mind eating later in the day, so you can
cook at a more leisurely pace. A platter of cheese, crackers, nuts and
dried fruits can tide everyone over until the meal is ready.
With the time that’s been freed up, we can enjoy family members
and friends and focus on appreciation.
We can look at each other, with love and attention.
We can tell each other what we appreciate about each other or about
the year that’s ending. We can play games, do a craft, tell stories, or
sing harvest-related hymns.
We can sit on the floor with any toddlers in the house and join them in
viewing the world with imagination and wonder.
And who knows? We might even be able to stay awake after dinner!

All work and no play make you a dull person. Having to finish the piled up paperwork in the office, makes you feel claustrophobic that all you want to do is just run away from it all. Once it strikes you, you will be living like a zombie and dark circle will form under your eyes for not having enough sleep. But there are ways to cope up with your stress.
You have to point out first what stresses you and list down what you can do to avoid it. If you think you are burnt out of your job, ask for a vacation leave. Go to a place where you can rest your mind and calm yourself from all the hustle and bustle of the city. But when you come back and you still feel the same, try to do a self evaluation, if that is the job that you really want, and if not, go search for a new one. It is not good to linger into something that you are not happy about. If a new atmosphere will change with how you look at things, then go and find a job that will keep you happy.
If you think you are fit for the job but are having some stress issues, it is about time you work on your time management. Make sure you get enough rest and don’t push yourself to the limit. You are accountable for your health so make sure not to put yourself in risk of getting sick. Manage, eat well, and treat yourself with a proper rest.
