Squash Club Gets Closed over Noise Complaints
The Cornhill Squash Club, located in Pattishall, has no choice but to put its operations on hold following the noise complaint filed against the establishment by the neighbors.
According to reports, the village squash club has been declared by the South Northamptonshire Council as “statutory nuisance” due to the excessive noise it gives to its neighbors, especially the one located just next to the establishment.
The house owners Toby and Cynthia Till said that they had no choice but to file the complaint following the excessive noise they receives whenever someone plays the next year. It seemed like there was a lapse of judgment from the council’s side when the couple claimed that they got an assurance from the council that the front walls dividing their home and the squash center will be sound-proof. However, this was not the case.
The couple had to deal with the excessive noise squash rackets of squash balls bouncing off the walls almost every night for about a year. Since the noise has gone beyond acceptable levels, the couple had no choice but to apply for the noise abatement order. The request has been granted and now the club has been ordered to be closed effective this week.
Club chairman Jamie Hayes said that he couldn’t blame the couple for filing the complaint because the noise definitely affected their family. He expressed his sadness over this development, after finding out that there was some lapse in the council’s side in the past.
Council chief executive Jean Morgan said that when statutory nuisance is identified then the council is obligated to file the noise abatement order. However, she added that they are finding ways to resolve the issue in an amicable way.
